Analysis and dynamics

Analysis and its main branches, differential equations and partial differential equations are at the core of the major problems in mathematics. Analytic methods and results influence all other areas of mathematics.

Research in analysis in our department focuses on two major directions. These are, on the one hand, complex analysis and approximation theory using classical analysis and functional analysis and, on the other hand, non-linear analysis and dynamical systems, which include the following aspects: 1) topological and variational methods in ordinary and partial differential equations; 2) geometric methods as refined by Poincaré, which can be applied to problems concerning limit cycles, bifurcations and Hilbert's 16th problem.
