Admission to graduate studies in mathematics

Thank you for your interest in our graduate programs in mathematics. On this page, you will find all the information you need to prepare your application for admission.

Deadlines

Admission term Application deadline
Winter June 1
Fall February 1

Preparatory steps

  1. Make sure you meet all the eligibility requirements for the master's or doctoral program, as applicable. Please also verify that your diplomas meet the formal requirements of the Université de Montréal.
  2. Consult the research axes of our department and contact the professors whose research interests you.
  3. Find out about the available financial support.
  4. If you are an international student, visit the website of the Office of International Students (BEI) for useful information.
  5. If you are applying for a fast-track admission to the doctoral program, inform yourself about the additional steps that you need to follow.
  6. If you want to do a joint PhD between the Université de Montréal and another institution, inform yourself of the procedure to follow.

Procedure for submitting an admission request

  1. Complete the Université de Montréal admission form. (Contrary to what the ESP website states, the deadline for submitting an application for admission in the winter semester is June 1 for the master's and doctoral programs in mathematics.)
  2. Complete the form on research experiences and interests of the département de mathématiques et de statistique.
  3. Obtain a copy of your official transcript* as well as a copy of the official diploma parchment or document.
  4. Ask two referees to provide letters of recommendation (sent directly by them through the ESP system as explained here). We prefer that the referees do not use the special ESP format for their letter but write it in free format.
  5. Upload your entire admission file to your Student Center. Following the problems with the Covid-19 pandemic, documents should not be sent by post.

*If it is too early for you to submit your final grades, you must send in the partial grades that you have received and then complete your application as soon as possible once you have your final grades.
