Biomathematics is a subject of current great interest, fueled by the notion that biology will be the dominant science of the 21st century: the increasing rôle played by mathematical approaches in medical (quantitative pharmacology, systems biology) and ecological (evolutionary dynamics, invasive species) problems make this area of research particularly attractive.

The search for solutions of a number of related societal problems will benefit from a mathematical modeling approach, for the foreseeable future.
